Your generous donation will help save Philadelphia-area senior pets just like Astrid!
Astrid, an approximately 15 year old blind Maltese mix, was found wandering around Philadelphia's Pennypack Park during the summer of 2013. She was picked up by a concerned passerby and brought to the animal control shelter in case her previous family was searching for her but they unfortunately, never came. Because of her poor physical condition and lack of space at the shelter, Astrid was slated for euthanasia. Luckily, Astrid was saved from euthanasia by City of Elderly Love just in the nick of time!
Astrid lived a long, happy year with her adoptive mom, Rebecca and two feline sisters. Neither blindness nor a later diagnosis of mammary cancer could slow her down. She had the opportunity to go to work with Rebecca regularly and was even the topic of multiple media posts promoting the joys of fostering and adopting senior pets. Read them here and here! Astrid lost her battle with cancer in August of 2014. Though her time was limited, she spent the best year of her life with her beloved adopted and did not have to spend her last days in a shelter.
